Artist Talk: Lis Zadravec - LIVE
at the Delaplaine!

Lis Zadravec is a signature member of the Colored Pencil Society of America. Her award-winning narrative colored pencil artwork is internationally recognized and has been published, among other places, in the book "Draw Portraits in Colored Pencil". Having studied oil painting and portraiture at the Corcoran School of Art, her approach to colored pencils reflects the layering technique used in the Maroger method of painting. Colored pencils lend themselves to precise detail and photo realism, Lis also aims to make subjects look as if they were painted. Her approach is unique even among other colored pencil artists and her standards of excellence have been confirmed by many curators and jurors. She has been teaching for over 2 decades and working with colored pencils more than 40 years. She brings experience and enthusiasm to a medium that has now caught the world’s attention.

Talk topic: Telling Stories with Colored Pencils

Lis Zadravec will show us how she applies the methods of painting to her colored pencil technique. She feels there is nothing this medium can't do or that painting could do better. From a family of published writers, she uses her subjects as fictional and sometimes autobiographical characters to tell stories. A very labor intensive  medium, colored pencils are also therapeutic, calming like crocheting or embroidery. It is her happy place her happy place.
